BHUJ /RAJKOT: Doctors in Kutch observed a
bandh on Tuesday against police inaction in a case where a doctor at Gandhidham was badly beaten up by Sushil Sanjot, brother of local Member of Parliament Poonam Jat. Sanjot has also registered a counter complaint with police, accusing the doctors under the SC /ST atrocities act. Gandhidham superintendent of police (SP) C Koradiya said the complaint relating to atrocity has been forwarded to the SC /ST cell whereas the complaint lodged by the doctors is being investigated by the A division police.
According to police, Sanjot went to Killol hospital with his injured son and two others around 10 pm on Sunday.
Dr Rathi, who was on duty, told him to take his son to see a surgeon. Sanjot, in a fit of rage, abused him and demanded that his son, who was injured by a ball, be treated immediately. Though he went away after this, he came back after an hour or so with two unidentified man. The trio abused the doctors and assaulted Dr Rathi, who had to be later hospitalized.
Dr Nitin Thakkar registered a complaint regarding this under Section 325 of IPC. The doctors protested that even after 24 hours having passed since the incident, the accused have still not been caught. The police are not taking any action because a politician's brother is involved, they alleged.
On Tuesday, all branches of Indian Medical Association in Kutch observed a bandh. They also took out huge rally at Gandhi dham and handed over a memorandum to the mamlatdar and DSP of Kutch on behalf of the medical fraternity demanding justice.
